Alpona Patterns

Alpona is one of the most expressive art forms of the floor painting and decorations in Bengal. Traditionally it is done with a wet white pigment made of rice flour and water on a darker background. The motifs and designs in Alponas are usually created in a free hand style, without the use of stencils or patterns. It is common to use floral motifs as well as figurative symbols representing specific Gods.

In this course, this beautiful art form is taught with worksheets to begin with and then slowly guiding you to create a combination of your own motifs to create the design of your wish. An extra pdf file is also given which is a collection of different patterns sourced from the internet. I am sure you will be able to create beautiful one stroke alpona patterns once you complete these lessons at your own pace in these live recordings of the class for around five hours.
